This course is centered around functional and temporomandibular aspects of orthodontics, such as craniomandibular dysfunction (CMD) and non-carious cervical lesions. A practical and systematic treatment approach is presented along with current literature, utilizing both analog and digital methods that are appropriate for use with fixed appliances and aligner therapy. The objective of this course is for participants to be able to apply the taught content directly in a clinical setting through practical exercises.


Course Outline:

  • Functional concepts of the stomatognathic system
  • Temporomandibular joint, masticatory muscles, occlusion
  • Classification of dysfunctions and therapeutic concepts
  • Literature overview/evidence
  • Brief assessment of CMD
  • Manual structural analysis with practical exercises
  • Joint-related wax registrations with practical exercises
  • Functional analytical measures
  • MRI evaluation of the temporomandibular joint
  • Splint therapy
  • S1 - Repositioning splint/diagnostic splint
  • S2 - Forward positioning splint
  • S3 - Decompression splint
